THE SJRFD FOCUSES ON CONSUMER FIREWORKS SAFETY

Due to the increasing concern regarding the use of consumer fireworks, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) is implementing a new Consumer Fireworks Certification Program.  The intent of this program is to educate both vendors and purchasers about the proper use and handling of consumer fireworks.

While vendors will still be required to obtain a permit from the SJRFD to sell consumer fireworks, with this new program vendors are now required to obtain certification from the SJRFD before a new permit will be issued.  This certification verifies that the vendors are knowledgeable in the proper use and handling of consumer fireworks.  The vendors are then responsible to review the safety information and manufacturers’ recommendations with purchasers at the time of sale to ensure the purchaser understands the proper use and handling of consumer fireworks.

The SJRFD hopes that with the implementation of this new program, vendors and purchasers will be more educated in the safe use of consumer fireworks.
